Oakland Neuropsychology Center is delighted to announce a new reading specialist who has joined our team of experts. Introducing Anna Hage West, Ph.D., who has over fifteen years of experience helping students with learning differences improve their reading, comprehension, math, writing, and executive functioning skills.
She is a lifetime lover of the written word, and has she earned an MFA in writing from Spalding University and a Ph.D. in English literature from the University of St Andrews. Her book Thomas Hardy and Animals was published by Cambridge University Press in 2017.
Anna spent over a decade working for Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes (most recently as the executive director of their Brooklyn location), where she became an expert at designing and implementing successful reading interventions using the Seeing Stars and Visualizing and Verbalizing programs. She has taught students with a broad range of learning differences, including students with dyslexia, ADHD, and autism. She also served as a learning specialist at a Manhattan school for twice-exceptional students.
Anna believes in every student’s potential to learn and thrive. Drawing upon research in the science of reading and best practices in the field of learning, she helps students identify and meet their learning goals with an emphasis on mindfulness and a growth mindset. Her goal is to nurture students’ curiosity about what they are learning, compassion toward themselves in their learning journey, and confidence in their academic skills. Sessions are often game-based, as Anna believes reading should be fun!
