Accommodations for High-Stakes Exams
Students with learning disabilities, ADHD, anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, or other cognitive and emotional challenges may face unique barriers during high-stakes testing. Neuropsychological testing can play a crucial role in determining whether a student qualifies for accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA)—and in providing the documentation needed to support that request.
Our comprehensive evaluations assess a student’s functioning in key areas such as:
- Attention and focus
- Processing speed
- Working memory
- Reading, writing, and math skills
- Executive functioning
- Emotional regulation
This testing helps identify whether a student meets criteria for a formal diagnosis (such as a learning disability, ADHD, or an anxiety disorder) and clearly outlines how the condition may impact their ability to perform on timed, standardized assessments.
If a qualifying diagnosis is established, we prepare a detailed report that meets documentation standards for most major testing boards (e.g., College Board, ACT). Based on individual needs, students may be eligible for accommodations such as:
- Extended time on exams
- Frequent or extended breaks
- Reduced-distraction or private testing environments
- Use of assistive technology
- Alternate test formats or special scheduling
If you’re considering applying for accommodations and don’t yet have an official diagnosis or up-to-date documentation, we can help guide you through the evaluation process to ensure you have what you need to advocate for fair testing conditions.
