ADHD Testing in Adults

Many adults who come to our center have concerns about attention. Questions often arise, such as: “Am I just easily distracted or overwhelmed, or is there something more going on?” Paying attention is a complex process that involves several areas of the brain, particularly those related to executive functioning. While everyone may have occasional difficulty staying focused or organized, persistent struggles that interfere with daily life can be frustrating and difficult to manage.

ADHD is a brain-based condition that can continue into adulthood, although it is often first identified in childhood. The symptoms can include:

  • Poor attention, which may appear as forgetfulness or frequent daydreaming
  • Lack of self-control, such as interrupting others or acting impulsively
  • Being easily distracted by irrelevant sights and sounds
  • Problems with organization and planning
  • Difficulty completing tasks or frequently switching between them
  • Restlessness or fidgeting
  • Trouble following through with daily home and work responsibilities

When left unaddressed, these challenges can impact work performance, relationships, and self-esteem. Because many different factors—such as stress, anxiety, or sleep issues—can affect attention and mimic ADHD symptoms, reaching an accurate diagnosis requires careful evaluation.

We offer short learning ADHD evaluations when this is the only area of concern, to optimize your time and resources. In other cases, a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment is the first step in determining whether ADHD is present, and in ruling out other potential causes of attention difficulties. It will help you access the appropriate treatment interventions so that you can meet your full potential.
