How Neuropsychological Testing Supports School Accommodations (IEP’s and 504 Plans)

If your child is having a tough time at school—whether it’s with learning, focus, behavior, or social/emotional challenges—it can be overwhelming trying to figure out what’s going on and how to help. That’s where neuropsychological testing comes in.

We take a deep dive into how your child’s brain is working, looking at areas like memory, attention, processing speed, language, visual-spatial processing, executive functioning (things like planning, organization, and self-control), social cognition, and emotional well-being. We also evaluated academic achievement. The goal is to get a full picture of their strengths and where they might be struggling—not just academically, but cognitively and emotionally too.

This kind of testing goes far beyond what most school-based evaluations typically provide. School evaluations are often limited in scope, focusing mainly on academic skills and using tools available within the school system. While those assessments are important, they might miss some of the underlying reasons a student is having difficulty.

With a neuropsychological evaluation, you get a thorough, personalized report that explains why your child may be struggling and what can help. Our reports include specific recommendations tailored to your child — such as specific accommodations for a 504 Plan or support services that could be written into an IEP.

We know how confusing and emotional this process can be, and we’re here to support you through it. Our goal is to give you the clarity and confidence you need to advocate for your child—and help them succeed not just in school, but in life.
